Lumasto reads it, pulls out the vocabulary that matters for your level, and builds your first review set from it. Most people are through this in under five minutes, and the first session works better with something from your actual job than with a sample text.

Reading, saved words, and vocabulary review work across our full set of supported languages. The parallel reader, which shows your source text beside a translation, currently covers the most requested pairs and is expanding. Roughly A2 and up. Lumasto teaches from material you already need to read, which assumes you have enough grammar to recognise sentence structure even when the vocabulary is unfamiliar. Complete beginners are usually better served by a structured course first, then switching here once real documents stop being impossible.

It is built around ten to fifteen minutes, because that is what survives a working week. Review sets are capped so a session ends rather than running until you quit, and reading a document you had to read anyway counts as study time. Long weekend sessions are fine but they are not the design target.

PDFs, Word documents, plain text, and pasted text. You can also save any web page through the browser plugin, or paste a URL directly. Scanned PDFs that are images rather than text will not extract cleanly — if you cannot select the text in your PDF reader, Lumasto cannot read it either.

Something you would have had to read anyway, a few pages long, in the register you need to produce. Internal reports, specifications, client emails, policy documents, and papers in your field all work well. Material far above your level produces a vocabulary list so long it stops being reviewable, so it is better to start with documents you can mostly follow and pick up the gaps.

That is a question for your employer, not for us. Uploaded documents are processed to extract vocabulary and generate exercises, and are stored against your account until you delete them. Many people prefer to paste an excerpt rather than upload a full document when the source is sensitive. Install it, and any word on any page becomes tappable for an inline translation without leaving what you were reading. Words you save go straight into the same review queue as everything else. It is designed for the moment you hit an unfamiliar term mid-task, when opening a separate app means you simply will not bother.

Words come back on a spacing schedule that stretches as you get them right and tightens when you do not, so the queue stays weighted toward what you are actually forgetting. Words are always reviewed with the sentence you originally saved them in, because a term learned without its context tends to come out wrong in a real meeting.

The word reader shows your text in the target language and translates individual words when you tap them, keeping you in the language as much as possible. The parallel reader shows the whole text beside a full translation for when a passage is dense enough that word-level help is not enough. Same document, two levels of support.

Set the scenario, your role, and the tone before you start — a status update, a negotiation, and a difficult conversation need very different language. Practise the intention rather than memorising a polished answer, and ask for alternative phrasings afterward so you build range instead of one rehearsed sentence. Save the phrasings you would genuinely say to your review queue.

You get feedback on grammar and phrasing in written and spoken practice, along with more natural alternatives where your version was understandable but not idiomatic. Feedback is most useful when you ask a specific question — whether something was clear, polite, or direct enough — rather than simply asking whether it was good.

Saved words, vocabulary review, and the browser plugin are free with no time limit. Paid plans add unlimited document processing, the parallel reader, AI role-play, and progress tracking. There is no card required to start, and nothing expires into a paywall partway through a session.

Cancel in account settings at any time; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, and there is no cancellation step by email or phone. Your saved words and documents stay in your account on the free plan afterward — cancelling does not delete your vocabulary.

Account deletion removes your documents, saved words, and practice history from production systems, with backups aged out on a rolling schedule. You can export your saved vocabulary first from account settings. Full detail on retention periods is on the privacy page.

Team plans cover shared billing, central administration, and shared vocabulary sets, which are useful when a group needs consistent terminology for the same product or domain. Individual learners keep their own private saved words and practice history — managers see seat usage, not what someone personally struggles with.
